John’s notes;Originally this song was a slow soulful blues ballad, and a smash hit globally for Ray Charles. Soon after Hank Williams recorded a ‘country’ version and that was also a big hit. It has stood the test of time and has become a ‘classic’ Country/Blues tune played everywhere. In my version I’ve given it an ‘upbeat’ country/blues vibe. It’s a standard 1-4-5 chord progression in the key of F Major.Verse 3 - provides melody variation,I’m improvising over the chord changes. Feel free to experiment doing this, but always ‘serve the tune’.This arrangement sounds good on either acoustic or electric guitar. I recommend if playing an acoustic guitar you use ‘slides’ instead of bends. Practice playing with feeling and lower the volume on the “Fills”.There are a lot of useful techniques and ‘licks’ in this arrangement (accurate bends, hammer on’s and pull off’s, double stops etc.) So it’s well worth the effort. Acoustic Guitar version. This tune is suitable for acoustic guitar as well. Simply substitute bends for slides.
